The Significance of Sri Kala Bhairava Puja
Lord Kala Bhairava, the most furious aspect of Lord Shiva, oversees the march of time and is the guardian deity of the Temple. He is therefore called 'Kshetrapalaka'. It is the custom that the keys of the temple are submitted to Sri Bhairava after the pujas are completed for the day and again taken from him the next morning before the opening. As the guardian deity he is also worshipped after any of the festivals at the temple. Those who tend to fritter away their time on many a trivial pursuit should pray sincerely to Lord Kala Bhairava if they want to improve their time management skills and use their time intelligently.
Bhairava forms are lords of directions. They control and rule the universe from eight sides as Ashta Bhairava. The infinite universe consisting of sun, planets, stars and nakshatras are guarded by the Ashta dikpalakas, the guardians of directions who in turn are controlled by the Bhairava forms.
Kala Bhairava’s vahana or vehicle is a dog. When you take care of dogs and offer food to them, the karma you have created can be released. On Krishna Paksha Ashtami Tithi, the grace of Kala Bhairava can be easily welcomed into our lives by feeding dogs, taking care of them and protecting them. They are like guardian angels that watch over and protect you.
Kalashtami celebrates Lord Kala Bhairava. It is observed on Krishna Paksha Ashtami Tithi, which is the eighth day after full moon. Kalashtami puja is performed to remove all the ill effects that one faces in life. Worshipping him on this day is especially recommended to recover from the bad effects of planets like Saturn, Rahu, Ketu, and Mars/ Mangal in a person’s horoscope.
According to astrology, the 27 Nakshatras presided by nakshatra devatas are Shakthi or powerful forces that grant good health, prosperity and overall well-being. Invoking the 27 Nakshatra Shakthi, Lord Kala Bhairava, and the Bhairava forms that control the Nakshatra Shakthi, has massive reach and profound auspiciousness to clear Karmic burdens first, and then grant blessings in plenty to the devotees such as creating favorable environment and time and bestowing material abundance in life.
At the Parashakthi Temple, Bhirava Ashtami / Kalashtami Abhishekam / Archana along with the 27 Nakshatra Devata Suktham will be done on the day of Kalashtami. Devotees are encouraged to sponsor the Bhirava Ashtami Abhishekam or Archana or both to get the benefits.
